Garmin announced an exciting new Garmin inReach and simplified its monthly subscription options today.
Garmin has introduced its newest inReach device, the inReach Messenger Plus. This is the first Garmin inReach to use the Certus chipsets and Iridium Messaging Transport system, which offers increased performance and, most importantly, larger data transfer limits. As a result, the new device supports extended messages up to 1600 characters in length, as well as photos and voice messages. In our article here, you can learn more about this new Garmin inReach, why it marks a significant development in the satellite communicator world and why it is an exciting improvement for Adiona Alert users.
Garmin has also introduced new plans that will improve the plans available for most users.
Garmin has simplified its plans and generally increased the messages you can send and receive. The basic plan, which used to include ten text messages or basic weather updates, now provides 50, while the old Recreation plan has increased the included messages from 40 to 150.
We beleive this is generally an improvement for our users.
You can read more about the changes Garmin has made to plans in this Garmin support article.
It’s important to note that to benefit from the plan changes, you MUST make the change yourself as Garmin considers these new plans. The increased messaging limits are not automatically applied to your current plan.
Here is a table prepared by our friend Cris Hazzard at HikingGuy.com that compares new and old plans well.
